Campaigning for Bury St Edmunds

Welcome to the web site of David Chappell

Parliamentary Campaigner for Bury St Edmunds

David is delighted to have been selected to fight the seat of Bury St Edmunds at the next General Election. The 2007 May Council results showed the Liberal Democrats in a strong second place with 12,720 votes compared to Labour on 4,782 votes and the Tories on 23,666.

In 2009 the electoral map in Bury St Edmunds changed. The traditionally high Tory vote fell from 25,445 from the County vote of 2005 to 16,854. Probably due to a variety of issues such as Tory support for the scrapping of Middle Schools; high salaries for public servants; and the publicity given to the local MP's expenses claims.

Meanwhile the Labour vote in the County Elections fell to an all time low of 3,814.

The key issue for the electorate in Bury St Edmunds will be to either maintain the existing Tory MP, or to vote in a Lib Dem MP and help create a hung parliament which might lead to a long overdue over how things are done in the UK.

Succession to the Crown

Thu 9th Jul 2009

I am surprised in this modern day that someone should believe that love should follow religious or political dictat rather than the heart. Reverend Sylvia Bareham in her contribution to the June Church Newsletter has presented an intelligent and articulate argument against the Monarch being allowed to marry a Catholic, but there are other issues that she has skirted around which perhaps need also to be addressed.

New Renewable Technology championed by Lib Dem PPC

Sat 4th Jul 2009

On 23rd June the Home Renewable Energy Grant was put to the Sustainable Development Panel. This grant as worded would have restricted the Grant to only two technologies: Solar hot water and heat pumps. Both are commendable technologies but the cost of solar hot water had dropped by a third in recent years and hardly needs additional incentives.

Tories Slump in County Elections

Thu 4th Jun 2009

For those who have not seen the results and bearing in mind some of our County Seats cross borders with neighbouring constituencies the following results are very interesting. I have 'averaged' where seats are 2 member.
