David Chappell

David Chappell joined the Liberal Party when he was 21 and has been active at a local and national level for many years. He is a veteran campaigner for people's rights, with a track record of boosting the vote of the Liberal Democrats.

At a local level David has been involved in campaigns to retain Middle Schools, the Manor House Museum, and the Hospital, as well as the industrial estates in the town. He also gained nearly 3,000 signatures campaigning for the Free Care for the Elderly petition

His constant campaigning on environmental issues has been reflected in an increasing green awareness and activity by the Council. He has highlighted the importance of low cost, low energy housing.

David is Vice-Chair of Bury St Edmunds Liberal Democrats, and has been Chair of the Suffolk Coordinating Committee, and a member of the East of England Policy Committee.

David is delighted to have been selected to fight the seat of Bury St Edmunds at the next General Election. The 2007 May Council results showed the Liberal Democrats in a strong second place with 12,720 votes compared to Labour on 4,782 votes and the Tories on 23,666.
